The Camera
1. Explain the “camera obscura” effect. How is it achieved?
The "camera obscure" effect is when there is a dark room and a wall that contains a hole, and going through the hole is a small fragment of light that is supposed to be the lens and on an opposite wall the scene is projected on the wall which is upside down. It is achieved by having a dark room with a small hole that reflects a light onto a wall which creates a scene. This was also known as the first camera.
2. What invention during the 17th Century helped man get a step closer to creating the modern camera?
The invention that helped man get one step closer to creating the modern camera in the 17th was when Isaac Newton and Christian Huygens made a high quality glass lens and better corrected the understanding of optics.
3. What were the parts of the first modern camera invented by Niepce?
The parts of the first modern consisted of a glass lens, a dark box, and most importantly, film.
4.What do modern digital cameras have in common with Niepce’s camera?
Modern cameras have one thing in common with Niece's camera, and that is that light still passes through a lens, which then shows up on the camera, and that creates exposure to the film.
5. What do digital cameras use to capture an image?
Digital cameras use a digital film card to capture an image. Which is also known as CCD and they are stored onto a small memory card, and it is way better than the film they used to use.
6. What is the difference between the Auto Mode and the Program mode?
The difference between Auto Mode and Program Mode is when you're in auto mode, the camera can fully control the flash and the exposure, but while in Program mode, you have control over all the flash lighting and the exposure.
7. What is the Portrait mode used for? How does it work?
The portrait mode is used for focusing on one little thing. It's supposed to blur out all the background. That camera mode works by the camera selecting a fast lens setting.
8. What is the Sports mode used for? (not just sports) How does it work?
Sports Mode is used for trying to take a picture of something in motion, it will be put on the setting that has the highest shutter speed.
9. Why should you do a half press on the trigger button?
You would want to half press the trigger button because it helps you get a better focus on what you are trying to take a picture of, and the camera will respond faster when you actually want to take the picture.
10. What does this symbol mean? When would you use this?
This symbol means no flash, you would use this when you are trying to take a dramatic picture, or the natural lighting will work better than the flash.
11.What does this symbol mean? When would you use this?
15. How many stops brighter is the new planet if there are two suns instead of one?
16. How many stops brighter is the new planet if there are four suns instead of two?
The new planet would be 2 stops brighter if the new planet had four suns.
17. What affect does a longer shutter speed of have?
The affect that a longer shutter has is that there is more light being projected which may have the picture turn out way better than if it was with a shorter shutter.
18. What affect does a shorter shutter speed have?
The affect that a shorter shutter has is that the amount of light that is being projected into the lens will be less than a longer shutter.
19. What does the aperture control?
The aperture controls the opening and closing the aperture. The aperture can be related to the pupil in the eyeball. You can control how wide or how slim you want the aperture to be.
20. When adjusting the aperture, how can you increase the amount of light?
To increase the amount of light passing the aperture, the opening of the aperture has to be big, because then more light will pass through.

11.What does this symbol mean? When would you use this?
This symbol means that the flash on the camera will be automatic, meaning when you take a picture, the flash will go of. You would use this when the subject that you are trying to take a picture of needs more light.
12. What happens to your photo if there is too much light?
When the photo has too much light, the picture that you are trying to take, will end up being to over exposed which will lead to it being washed out. So, a good picture, turns out really bad, just because of over exposure.
13. What happens to your photo if there is not enough light?
When there is not enough light, the picture will end up being really dark, and it will be hard to tell what is in the picture.
14. What is a “stop.”
