Magazines pt 2
1. Image based magazine covers are the most popular, not many people are in it and there isn't much activity going on. Usually, there is a celebrity on the cover to gather more people to buy the magazines. The magazine covers are used in almost all fashion, gossip and mens magazines. The cover corresponds with the style of the publication which means if your shooting a fashion magazine use clothes as your subject.
2. Illustration Based covers are drawn or generated on the computer. Illustration covers are used to add a different effect on the magazine or to add something out of the ordinary. Mostly all of the magazine companies that use this cover don't have to have newsstand sales.
3. Type Based covers are not the go to cover. The approach isn't always used but these covers are used more than illustrated covers. On the cover, the text uses almost all of the space and can send powerful messages or strong meanings of symbolism that will stand out to the readers. Sometimes the text may come across as straight forward or a funny/sarcastic meaning.
4. Concept Based covers are a all three covers combined. It is not used a lot, but can send a powerful symbol or message to get the readers attention. It is easily understood by the readers , this is your main goal. The Concept Bases cover is mostly used in business magazines and news magazines, such as Time magazine.
The relationship between words and photos are, pictures can tell a thousand words, but there is no explanation on what's going on in the pictures, so the words are there for a better explanation and more details to describe what is happening in the picture. This is important because people would want more of an explanation then just looking at a photo and not understanding the meaning of it.
